DCS is looking for a new Executive Director

The Design Council of Saskatchewan (DCS) is seeking a motivated self-starter to serve as our new Executive Director. Perks of the position include: the opportunity to advocate for great design in our province, to meet like-minded peers across different design disciplines, and last but not least, to help plan and execute some amazing events including SK Design Week, and the Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design gala, the best party in town! We also offer a flexible working arrangement, with the ability to set your own hours and direct and lead this organization in new and exciting directions.

The successful candidate shall be responsible for: administration, including budgeting, fundraising and grant writing, maintenance of membership & fees, guidance (supervision) of sub-committees, marketing & communications strategy, financial administration, and other duties as required for Design Week 2025 and the 2025 Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Design program.

The successful candidate will be offered a contract for approximately 650 hours total over a two-year period (2024-2025), with the possibility of extension or renewal after that.

2023 Premier's Awards of Excellence in Design Winners

As part of Saskatchewan Design Week 2023, held November 17-24, 2023, the Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design recognized outstanding professional design in Saskatchewan.

Awards were earned in the following categories: architecture, graphic design, interior design, and landscape architecture

The program was open to certified individuals and corporate members in good standing with a Design Council of Saskatchewan member association. All entries were designed in Saskatchewan by Saskatchewan resident professionals and were completed within the two-year period prior to Design Week.

A jury composed of invited guest jury members from the Design Week Speakers Series, as well as local jurors, evaluated entries on criteria appropriate to each category. All entries were displayed to the public during SK Design Week. The awards were presented during the Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design Gala at the conclusion of SK Design Week, on the evening of November 24th, 2023. Congratulations to all.

Save the Date! SK Design Week 2023 to be held November 17-24.

SK Design Week is returning to Saskatchewan in November 2023. The biennial event, organized by the Design Council of Saskatchewan (DCS), invites the public to learn about the different areas of design through a series of free lectures and other educational events. The week concludes with the 2023 Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design Gala, recognizing great design work completed right here in our province. With a largely virtual program in 2021, we look forward to hosting these exciting events in person this year.

2021 Premier's Awards of Excellence in Design Winners Announced

As part of Saskatchewan Design Week, which took place from November 12th - 19th, 2021, the Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design recognized outstanding professional design in Saskatchewan.

Awards were earned in the following categories: architecture, graphic design, interior design, landscape architecture and integrated design (demonstrating significant involvement of two or more member associations in the project).

The program was open to certified individuals and corporate members in good standing with a Design Council of Saskatchewan member association. All entries were designed in Saskatchewan by Saskatchewan resident professionals and were completed within the two-year period prior to Design Week.

A jury composed of invited guest jury members from the Design Week Speakers Series, as well as two local jurors, evaluated entries on criteria appropriate to each category.

All entries were displayed to the public during SK Design Week. The awards were presented during the Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design Virtual Gala at the conclusion of SK Design Week, on the evening of November 19th. Congratulations to all.

WINDOW GALLERY: CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

Saskatchewan Design Week celebrates design as a multidisciplinary form of creative thinking and making, with several events and exhibitions to experience online and in-person. What better way to explore gallery spaces while maintaining physical distances than to do it outdoors? This year, we are organizing a series of Window Galleries in downtown Saskatoon to highlight creativity, community, and experimentation. Downtown business will partner with Saskatchewan design firms to create special installations to entice audiences.

SK Design Week is returning to Saskatoon and Regina this October. Last year’s event featured lectures by renowned designers including Architect, Omar Gandhi and Interior Designer, Jason Kasper. SK Design Week 2019 will feature free lectures from more of our country’s top design professionals as well as other educational events open to the public. The week will, of course, wrap up with the ever popular Premier's Awards of Excellence in Design celebrating the work of local designers. 2017 Premier's Awards Entry Deadline Extended

We have some great news! The submission deadline for the DCS Premier's Awards of Excellence in Design has been extended to Wednesday, September 20th at 5pm. Please contact the Design Council representative from your association (listed on the form) with any questions regarding entries.

The awards will be handed out on Friday, September 29th at our SK Design Week HQ (145 1st Ave N). You can purchase tickets for the awards party at the same time you pay your entry fees. Tickets are also available on Picatic.

Call for Participants - 20x20 Speaker Event

DCS is seeking participants for a 20x20 style presentation (twenty slides, twenty second each) at our Design Week Launch Event on September 23, 2017.

Potential speakers must hold current membership with one of the professional design associations that make up the Design Council of Saskatchewan.

Please submit a short (1 page) proposal outlining the topic to be presented to design.council.sk@gmail.com.

Held in conjunction with Design Week, taking place in Saskatoon and Regina from September 23-29, 2017, the Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design is a juried competition recognizing outstanding applied design in Saskatchewan in seven different categories.

In an effort to make the awards more fair, some eligibility and submission requirements have been revised substantially from previous years. Please review the forms carefully and ensure you meet all criteria.

The deadline to submit projects is 5 pm, September 6, 2017. Please contact the Design Council representative from your association (listed on the form) with any questions regarding entries.

The awards will be handed out on Friday, September 29th at a venue to be named later. You can purchase tickets for the awards party at the same time you pay your entry fees. (Tickets will also be available on Picatic soon.)

Design Council of Saskatchewan is Looking for an Event Planner

The Design Council of Saskatchewan seeks proposals from individuals, firms, and organizations to serve as the Event Planner for Design Week SK 2017; which runs from September 23-29, 2017

The successful candidate will be an individual, firm, or organization with relevant experience in coordinating events of similar size and focus. As an independent contractor, the Event Planner shall fulfill these duties in coordination with the Executive Director and Events Committee, with the nature of this relationship to be guided strictly by a contract for professional services.  Please refer to the Responsibility List and draft Event Schedule for a detailed breakdown of the Event Planner tasks and role.

Proposals shall be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 19th, 2017. Proposals will be evaluated and a recommendation for selection will be made as soon as possible. Selected candidate(s) will be required to meet with members of DCS as part of an interview process.

Design Council of Saskatchewan is looking for an Executive Director

DCS seeks to hire a part-time Executive Director for the upcoming year.

The successful candidate shall be responsible for the routine administration, maintenance of membership & fees, guidance (supervision) of sub-committees, marketing & communications strategy, financial administration, and other duties as required for Design Week 2017 and the 2017 Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Design program.

The successful candidate will be an individual, firm, or organization with an understanding of the DCS and its past programs. As an independent contractor, the Executive Director shall fulfill these duties with minimal supervision by the Council, with the nature of this relationship to be guided strictly by a contract for professional services. Please refer to the attached Responsibility List for a detailed breakdown of the Executive Director tasks and role.

Proposals shall be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, February 3rd, 2017. Proposals received after this date and time shall be rejected. Proposals will be evaluated and a recommendation for selection will be made as soon as possible. Selected candidate(s) may be required to meet with members of DCS as part of an interview process.

DCS anticipates that this contract will be awarded to an individual, firm, or organization working on a part-time basis, approximately 200-300 hours over the course of the contract for the amount of $30/hour. The time requirements throughout the period of the contract will fluctuate. Leading up to Premier’s Design Awards and Design Week 2017 (September 2017), the Executive Director time expectations will increase. The proposed contract schedule shall run from February 20, 2017 to January 31, 2018.

2013 Premier’s Awards Call For Entries

Held in conjunction with Design Week, taking place in Saskatoon from October 21-25, 2013, the Premiers Awards of Excellence in Design is a juried competition recognizing outstanding applied design in Saskatchewan in seven different categories.

New to the awards this year, is the “Integrated Design” category. This category replaces the previous “Collaborative” category, with revised criteria to help encourage the entry of projects that are more truly and fully collaborative in nature. Remember to review all awards criteria carefully.

The deadline to submit projects is October 17, 2013. Please contact the Design Council representative from your association (listed on the form) with any questions regarding entries.

The awards will be handed out on Friday, October 25th at the newly renovated Louis’ Loft on the U of S campus. You can purchase tickets for the awards party at the same time you pay your entry fees. (Tickets will also be available on Picatic soon.)
